New college project; Fashion Promotion

Project Brief:

"Following on from your previous projects, Fashion retail & Fashion Buying, you will build upon your knew-found knowledge by generating and developing a concept for an existing retailer. This will be created through collaborating with a new designer or celebrity.
Your concept will be presented and promoted via a double-page magazine spread for Grazia. This should be branded with your collection name, logo, examples of the product, and a written piece promoting the new range."

When I first recieved this project I knew straight away I was going to love it! So far key research has been completed in the form of brand analysis and creating a group presentation on our chosen store (Urban Outfitters).
Our presentation contained research on these key factors;
  • Core Customer (which was developed through market research using methods such as questionnaires)
  • Product and Ranges (this involved studying the current products and ranges that are currently sold in store)
  • Competitors (realising our stores key competitors, which consisted of mid-range market level stores such as Topshop, and also local vintage stores, due to there being an Urban Outiftters renewal concession stall in the Newcastle branch)
  • Logo/ Promotional material (we collected various imagery of Urban Outiftters' logos as well as researching into promotional tactics that Urban Outfitters use, this involved a lot of social networking techniques, using sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Blogging, Pinterest, Instagram and OUTV)
  • SWOT Analysis (during this part of the presentation areas of the business were highlighted, consisting of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. This section was important for us to fully understand the brand that we are planning a collaboration for)
  • Areas/ ideas for Expansion (we decided that Urban Outfitter could consider launching a children's range, seeing as they are quite a lifestyle oriented brand, selling everything from clothes and homeware to music and skateboards)
The group I was in presented last Friday and out brand analysis report went very well! *cough* JENNA *cough*
Now we have to work individually to decide on a final collaboration that will be suitable for the brand. Once this has been deciced on a brand logo must be developed in time to incorporate into the mock magazine spread for Grazia magazine.
Tonight I will be researching into celebraties, artists and designers that could possibly be suitable for a collaboration with Urban Outiftters. I will post my ideas and keep you all updated! EEk! :)
